Sunset apartment is completed
Three narrow apartments got merged into a spacious home. Built within a post-war residence on Knokke’s coast at a time when function was prioritized over shape and design.
The new design took the existing framework as the motif of the space. Abstracted archetypes of past and present spaces have been cut, carved and overlapped to add a new layer of meaning to this old structure.
Movement, softness and reflection was an integral part of the design, creating flexibility and surprise.
The process tested the flexibility of the old building and once again proved it possible to achieve high quality through renewal.
