We design to build. Led by architect-and-engineer Joris De Baes, we combine creative thinking and practical know-how to find inventive spatial solutions. Our studio works from design through construction to deliver conceptually innovative and rigorously executed projects. 

We are future-proofing architecture. We conduct ongoing research into ecologically, economically, and urbanistically sustainable building solutions. We prototype and test modular construction systems, emerging material approaches like cross-laminated timber structures, and new methods to adaptive reuse—all towards building a sustainable future. We find practical applications for these systems that maximize their architectural, logistical, and economic value.

We think across scales. Our portfolio spans scales from urban masterplans to adaptive reuse projects and apartment renovations. We take a holistic approach to our projects, considering everything from global material supply chains to local construction capabilities and building traditions. No matter the size, each of our projects shares our sense of craft, attention to detail, and approach to finding elegant solutions that emerge from practical considerations.

We think globally. de baes architects is based in Brussels and works worldwide. The firm leverages the power of international collaboration to bring global expertise to bear on local projects. It has worked with project partners around the world, including in Japan, Australia, Mexico, Greece, and the United States. 

Joris De Baes is a Belgian architect and engineer.

In 2010 he founded 'de baes architects' to design buildings, construction systems, landscape, and urban plans. In addition to the holistic and sustainable approach, he always argued for a design that was integrated into its environment. In 2015, he founded Redevelop, a platform that future-proofs architecture through inventive, cost-effective and reusable solutions that bring new life to post-war structures.

Joris De Baes started his career as an architect at the well-known Office for Metropolitan Architecture, where he led large-scale projects, including Oude Dokken - Ghent, Fondazione Prada - Milan, and Tour Signal, Paris, projects that are all progressive, in the field of reuse and sustainability.
